Abstract
The two most frequent causes of localized alopecia in the newborn are aplasia cutis and a sebaceous nevus. In the former, the lack of hair is due to the scarring of the healing process, whereas in the latter, it is due to hypertrophy of the sebaceous glands, which compress the hair, making it thinner.

1The segmental and mosaic distribution of lichen striatus along one or several Blaschko lines means that along these lines, a pre-existing clone of mutated cells can be present before the appearance of the disease. Their clinically silent mutation consists of a peculiar susceptibility to become affected by lichen striatus in the presence of its causative factors.
