Riassunto

Il coping si è dimostrato essere molto importante per regolare le esigenze di adattamento di malattie croniche e, negli ultimi anni, ha ricevuto un crescente interesse nella sclerosi multipla (SM). Un risultato comune in letteratura è che i pazienti con SM tendono ad adottare strategie di evitamento e fanno meno affidamento sulle strategie di coping orientate al compito (task-oriented), che rappresentano un migliore adattamento alle sfide legate alla malattia. Inoltre, gli studi mostrano che i soggetti con SM hanno più elevati livelli di depressione e ansia che possono contribuire ad abbassare la percezione della qualità della vita. Negli ultimi anni sono state valutate le relazioni tra coping e deficit cognitivo. I soggetti che falliscono test di attenzioni e di funzioni esecutive sono più inclini a usare strategie di evitamento.
