Riassunto
Il tasso di suicidi legati all’appartenenza a un credo religioso varia da religione a religione, a volte anche considerevolmente. Con riguardo agli Stati Uniti, i protestanti mostrano il maggior tasso di suicidi, seguiti dai cattolici. Gli individui di fede ebraica hanno il minor tasso di suicidi (Maris et al., 2000). Sono registrati minori comportamenti suicidari tra gli islamici se si confrontano con quelli di altre religioni, come il Cristianesimo o l’Induismo (Ineichen, 1998; Abdel-Khalek, 2004). Elemento comune tra tutte le religioni è la circostanza che, a un maggior grado di religiosità, corrisponde un minor rischio suicidario (Martin, 1984; Dervic et al., 2004).
