Abstract
The echocardiographic evaluation of the dimensions of the inferior vena cava and its inflated variations in the intensive care setting is very important to evaluate the right atrial pressure, which reflects dehydration and overhydration. The vessel distension and the internal pressure are related to the filling status of the circulatory system and to the venous vessel tone. They also depend on abdominal and intrathoracic pressure.
