Abstract
Acute kidney injury is a frequent condition affecting critical patients. It is the clinician’s responsibility to decide when it is best to initiate diuretic therapy and also which molecule to use and at what dosage. Such decision is based on a previous evaluation of the patient’s volemic state and in consideration of the many difficulties that such an assessment presents when dealing with a critical patient. The clinician must finally be aware of the side effects of ongoing diuretic therapy in order to identify them and solve any related problem.
