Abstract

The technique of venous access port placement requires dissection of the pocket just above the level of the pectoralis fascia and then placement of nonabsorbable sutures through the holes in the reservoir base to secure it. A low rate of port inversion is reported when the port base is fixed to subcutaneous pocket.

However, series reporting both port fixation or no fixation show similar rates of reversal. Once identified, port reversal can be easily corrected by gentle rotation of the port. Rarely, reanchoring of the port is required.
