Abstract

This chapter considers the histology of the terminal ileum and cecal region in different pathological conditions. After reviewing the normal histological aspect of this intestinal segment, we continue with a discussion of several different pathologies, such as Crohn’s disease, backwash ileitis and pouchitis, inflammatory bowel disease, ischemia, and celiac disease, rarer entities, and tumors that involve this anatomic region.
