Il sistema nervoso è un complesso di strutture specializzate la cui funzione può essere definita attraverso la loro capacità di ricevere e riconoscere stimoli provenienti dall’ambiente esterno e dall’organismo stesso e di elaborare risposte effettrici coordinate di tipo volontario o involontario (attività riflesse); è costituito da cellule gliali, che svolgono funzioni di sostegno e trofiche, e da neuroni, specializzati nella produzione e conduzione degli impulsi nervosi.
