Riassunto

Le ricerche che hanno studiato il ruolo dei fattori psicologici nella patogenesi della malattia cardiaca hanno messo in evidenza come la depressione rappresenti un fattore di rischio indipendente. La depressione rappresenta un importante fattore di rischio psicologico per la malattia cardiaca. I sintomi depressivi sembrano essere associati a un’alterazione delle funzioni cardiovascolari, endocrine e di quelle immunologiche (Simonsick, Wallace et al. 1995; Glassman, Rodriguez et al. 1998; Herrmann, Brand Driehorst et al. 1998; Kiecolt Glaser, Glaser et al. 1998; Kiecolt Glaser, Page et al. 1998; Penninx, Guralnik et al. 1998; Penninx, Guralnik et al. 1998; Penninx, van Tilburg et al. 1998). Il ruolo della depressione come fattore di rischio ha ricevuto attenzione dalle ricerche anche relativamente al decorso della malattia cardiaca e in particolare dell’IM. Le ricerche con pazienti post-IM hanno evidenziato come elevati livelli di depressione siano associati a un aumento di rischio e di mortalità.
