Abstract

Although the identification of Chlamydia pneumoniae as a third species of the Chlamydia genus may be considered as fairly recent, an impressive wealth of research on this pathogen has been published during the past 10 years. This book has been devised as an attempt to assemble the mass of data at our disposal in an orderly fashion so as to present the reader with a comprehensive and updated review of the very diverse aspects of C. pneumoniae infection. This has been made possible by the fact that the chapters are authored either by the “parents” of the discovery of C. pneumoniae or by investigators who are currently exploring the most advanced research fields regarding this pathogen.
