Conference paper

Ventricular fibrillation (VF) in the presence of ischemic heart disease is the leading cause of sudden cardiac death (1). Other less common cardiac diseases are also associated to VF, among them the cardiomyopathies, myocarditis, the long QT syndrome, infiltrative diseases such as amiloidosis, and valvular defects. However, in a small subset of patients who develop VF, no structural heart disease can be identified despite intensive examination. These patients are defined as having “idiopathic ventricular fibrillation” (IVF; 2–6).
