Conference paper

A major consequence of drug-induced changes in gastric motility is the effect on the rate of gastric emptying (GE). Drugs are one of many factors affecting GE. The characteristics of the gastric contents are a major factor, including its volume, size, density, temperature, viscosity, osmolality, and caloric value. Splanchnic blood flow, body position, and electrolyte balance also affect GE. Even gravity (or its absence) plays a role in the rate of GE [2]. The presence of food generally delays GE.
