The Genoa technique in action

  • Giorgio Cittadini

Abstract

Three fundamental, sequential and interconnected phases can be distinguished in DCBE execution:
  1. 1

    intestinal preparation of the patient (i.e. colonic lumen and mucosa preparation);

  2. 2

    double-contrast implementation (in its two phases: uniform and thin layer barium coating of the mucosa; gaseous distention of the colonic lumen);

  3. 3

    radiographic documentation (i.e. analytic and repeated depiction of the various colon segments on overhead radiographs and spot films, if necessary, having appropriate resolution).
