Abstract
The insufflation of fresh gas or oxygen into the trachea is an old therapeutic approach with fascinating new perspectives. Originally developed to support just oxygenation, current research activities focus on the potential to use this technique also to augment alveolar ventilation and to reduce dead space ventilation.
