Abstract
Flexible endoscopy of the gastrointestinal tract, using fiberoptic techniques and more recently silicon chip technology, has allowed easy visual access to the inside of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. From above, the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, and from below, the colon and terminal ileum, have proved relatively straightforward to intubate, by pushing flexible tubes with particular characteristics.
