Atrial Fibrillation After Heart Surgery: How to Identify and Protect Predisposed Patients?

Supraventricular arrhythmias (SVA), mostly atrial fibrillation (AF), are the most frequent complications after cardiac surgery. In patients undergone coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), the incidence of postoperative AF (pAF) ranges from 20% to 40% [1–10]. The figure rises to 50% after valvular surgery [11, 12].
