Abstract
In 1964, at the World Congress in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Robert Hing-son of Cleveland Ohio reported his ideas of a “brother to broth-foundation” to provide assistance for anaesthesia in developing countries. The WFSA executive supported the concept and established an “Anaesthesia Education and Relief Foundation”. Its members included John Bonica, Francis Foldes, and E.M. Papper of the United States, Luis Cabrera of Chile, and two or three others. The aim was to raise funds for educational projects. At the same congress in 1964 the Executive Committee decided to produce a newsletter. The first edition, edited by the Secretary, Otto Mayrhofer, was published in four languages in 1965.
