History of the WFSA Asian and Australasian Regional Section
In the photo below Fig. 1, the flag raising ceremony for the 1st 1st Asian and Australasian Congress of Anaesthesiology (AACA), is pictured the New Zealand delegate, Dr. James Church of New Plymouth. It was he who had previously, first stimulated my interest in the practice of anaesthesia during my initial hospital internship. Little did I realise at that time what a profound effect that would have on my own and my family’s life. Some 23 years after working with Jim Church I attended the 5th AACA in New Delhi, India as President of the New Zealand Society of Anaesthetists. This began an 18-year association with the Asian and Australasian Regional Section (AARS) and the WFSA. In that time not only was I privileged to work with highly motivated colleagues but also established life-long friendships throughout the world. As a tribute to these associations it is my pleasure to present the history of AARS of the WFSA.
