Riassunto
Il defibrillatore cardiaco impiantabile (ICD, Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator) rappresenta uno dei progressi medici più avanzati del XX secolo. Il primo impianto è stato effettuato presso il John Hopkins Hospital di Baltimora nel Maryland nel 1980 da Michel Mirowsky (1924–1990) e dalla sua équipe: da questa data l’ICD è diventato un importante e comune strumento utilizzato nella terapia per i pazienti con insufficienza cardiaca [17].
