Riassunto

Il bambino gravemente ustionato deve essere considerato a tutti gli effetti un paziente “chirurgico”, e il complesso protocollo terapeutico al quale deve venire sottoposto non può assolutamente prescindere dall’intervento del chirurgo [1, 2]. Fatto salvo il concetto che nel paziente pediatrico è buona regola cercare di promuovere al massimo i naturali processi riparativi dell’organismo, la terapia chirurgica rappresenta un momento terapeutico di fondamentale importanza nella gestione del paziente ustionato [3]. Una delle grandi conquiste dell’ustionologia, risalente solo a pochi decenni fa, è stata infatti la sempre maggiore diffusione della terapia chirurgica precoce [4, 5], basata essenzialmente sulle tecniche di escarectomia delle aree ustionate e sulla immediata copertura con materiali diversi, al fine di ridurre da queste zone la perdita di fluidi e proteine [6–8].
