Riassunto
Le infezioni del sistema nervoso centrale (SNC) che più frequentemente sono causa di patologia in età pediatrica sono classificabili, secondo la localizzazione, in meningiti (l’infezione è localizzata alle leptomeningi e al liquido cerebro-spinale, LCR) o encefaliti (l’infezione è localizzata al parenchima cerebrale). A causa degli stretti rapporti tra le strutture anatomiche nel SNC, le due forme spesso coesistono (meningoencefaliti), in quanto nella meningite batterica e nell’encefalite la flogosi può estendersi alle strutture contigue.
