Alterazioni del ritmo cardiaco sono frequentemente rilevate nella terapia intensiva pediatrica; si rende necessaria, quindi, per l’intensivista la familiarità con le tecniche di diagnosi e con il trattamento delle aritmie più comunemente osservate, perché il cardiologo e il tecnico possono non essere sempre prontamente disponibili. Dal momento che l’aritmia è sospettata o diagnosticata, è importante la registrazione di un tracciato elettrocardiografico (ECG) completo a 12 derivazioni (i testi in lingua inglese citano come standard 15 derivazioni, includendo la V7 e due ulteriori toraciche destre, la VR2 e la VR3).
