Riassunto
L’idea di poter utilizzare “i geni” come “farmaci” per la terapia delle malattie nasce verso la fine degli anni ’70 negli Stati Uniti. È la logica conseguenza da un lato del progressivo aumento delle conoscenze sul funzionamento dei geni umani e sugli effetti delle loro mutazioni, e dall’altro dello sviluppo di metodi sempre più efficaci per il trasferimento del DNA all’interno nelle cellule, frutto dell’esplosione delle tecnologie dell’ingegneria genetica.
