Riassunto

La sicurezza del paziente è la nostra principale priorità. Oggi è possibile sentire questa affermazione pronunciata da ministri, amministratori, conferenzieri e da molti candidati nei colloqui di assunzione. Questa enfasi sulla sicurezza è senz’altro benvenuta, ma la dichiarazione, sebbene possa essere sincera, non è strettamente esatta. Come ho sentito dire a un dirigente di una compagnia petrolifera: “La sicurezza non è la nostra principale priorità. La nostra principale priorità è estrarre petrolio dal sottosuolo. Tuttavia, quando sicurezza e produttività entrano in conflitto, allora la sicurezza diventa prioritaria.”
