Riassunto

L’acalasia esofagea è un disturbo funzionale caratterizzato da un’alterata motilità dell’esofago distale e dall’incapacità dello sfintere esofageo inferiore (SEI) a rilasciarsi in seguito alla deglutizione. L’incidenza è di circa 5 casi per milione e solo il 5% di questi è costituito da bambini. Trattamenti conservativi, con dilatazioni esofagee e/o tossina botulinica, possono dare un sollievo temporaneo; in ogni caso la terapia definitiva è chirurgica.
