Riassunto

I servizi di emergenza psichiatrica solitamente forniscono un processo di cura sistematico nel quale i pazienti che presentano emergenze psichiatriche sono valutati e gestiti in modo ottimale. Si definisce emergenza psichiatrica un disturbo del pensiero, delle emozioni o del comportamento per il quale siano necessari valutazione e trattamento immediati. Una situazione può essere considerata un’emergenza non solo sulla base del giudizio dei servizi sanitari, ma anche da parte del paziente, della famiglia, della comunità o di un amico. Il personale operante in un contesto di emergenza effettuerà una valutazione e si occupera del paziente stabilendo le successive azioni finalizzate a comprendere il problema e le sue origini. Il processo sistematico di cura include una sequenza di azioni, in particolare la valutazione, l’identificazione del problema, la pianificazione del trattamento, gli interventi, il monitoraggio continuo e le dimissioni. Tuttavia, la risoluzione dell’emergenza di solito non avviene nel contesto stesso di emergenza, ma più spesso in un altro setting di cura.
