Riassunto
Le percentuali dell’obesità nella popolazione generale del mondo occidentale sono attestate intorno al 30% e sono in continua crescita, specie nelle fasce infantili e adolescenziali, nonostante le raccomandazioni dei Sistemi Sanitari. All’obesità si associano una morbidità e una mortalità aumentate, in particolare per sindrome metabolica, eventi cardiovascolari e disfunzione respiratoria. Le disfunzioni originate da profondi sovvertimenti della fisiologia d’organo e di sistema sono amplificate in corso di perioperatorio, nella chirurgia elettiva e a maggior ragione in quella d’urgenza.
