Abstract

There is no doubt that anorectal physiological assessment is potentially helpful in some patients with fecal incontinence. However, the lack of uniformity of performance and interpretation of the investigations has compromised a definitive role for such testing across the board. As such, symptoms and appearances on endoanal ultrasound have come to be regarded by many practitioners as more valuable definers of treatment and clinical outcome.
