Riassunto
In questo capitolo verranno esplorate le teorie comportamentali, cognitive e temperamentali sull’eziologia del gioco d’azzardo patologico (GAP). Alcuni autori, nell’ambito delle prospettive comportamentali e di quelle dell’apprendimento sociale, si sono concentrati sul ruolo del rinforzo diretto e vicario nello sviluppo e nel mantenimento delle attivitá di gioco d’azzardo. Gli autori, appartenenti alla corrente cognitiva, si sono invece focalizzati sugli errori di elaborazione delle informazioni che amplificano le stime soggettive di probabilitá di vincita o che promuovono altrimenti la persistenza del gioco d’azzardo. É stata anche postulata l’importanza di tratti temperamentali — quali impulsivitá, ricerca di sensazioni, nevroticismo ed estroversione, così come di tratti di personalitá antisociale — nello sviluppo del GAP. A seguito di una rilevante revisione della letteratura per ciascuna di queste prospettive, concluderemo considerando le associazioni tra modelli psicologici e sistemi neurobiologici che sono ritenuti collegati al GAP.
