Si suddivide l’aorta nei tratti toracici e addominali in base alla posizione rispetto al diaframma. Nell’aorta toracica si distingue:

un tratto ascendente fino alla brachio-cefalica;
-
l’arco, fino alla succlavia sinistra;
-
un tratto discendente fino al diaframma.
