Con il termine accesso venoso centrale si intende l’impianto di un catetere nella vena cava superiore o inferiore o in prossimità dell’atrio destro tramite rami affluenti diretti (vena succlavia, giugulare, femorale) o indiretti (vena cefalica, basilica, safena). Si tratta di vasi di grande calibro ed elevato flusso ematico capaci di neutralizzare l’iperosmolarità delle soluzioni nutritive e tollerare la permanenza del catetere per lungo tempo (mesi o anni).
