Riassunto
Uno è stato allievo dei più grandi genetisti del mondo, l’altro si è formato sul pensiero di Socrate e Locke. Il genetista e il filosofo sono al timone di un progetto ambizioso, che si è prefisso di raccogliere e analizzare i campioni di DNA di 100000 individui delle popolazioni indigene di tutte le aree del mondo, per comporre l’albero genealogico globale dell’umanità. La diversità tra il genetista americano Spencer Wells e l’esperto di bioetica australiano Simon Longstaff, rispecchia la complessità dei problemi che deve affrontare la ricerca sulla genetica delle popolazioni nel XXI secolo. Wells dirige il Genographic Project, un progetto da milioni di dollari, di cui Longstaff presiede la commissione consultiva internazionale. La scienza si intreccia così con l’etica, la storia e la politica.
