Con il termine di spondilodiscite si intendono i processi infettivi che coinvolgono contemporaneamente i corpi vertebrali ed il disco interposto. Tale termine sostituisce quelli di spondilite, osteomielite e discite, precedentemente utilizzati, in quanto, alla luce delle nuove tecnologie di imaging, si può dimostrare nella quasi totalità dei casi il coinvolgimento contemporaneo sia dei corpi vertebrali che dei dischi interposti.
