Il concetto di energia elastica è stato occasionalmente invocato nei Capitoli precedenti; per esempio, ne abbiamo fatto uso per verificare la grande simmetria del tensore elastico e per introdurre le limitazioni fisiche ai valori dei moduli di elasticità. Non abbiamo tuttavia affrontato in modo rigoroso l’introduzione di tale concetto all’interno della teoria dell’elasticità.
