Abstract

Various mechanisms of formation of acute small-bowel obstruction (SBO) allow the following subdivisions:
  • obturation;

  • narrowing;

  • compression;

  • blockage;

  • intussusception;

  • large-bowel obstruction;

  • intestinal strangling and strangulation;

  • complex mechanisms.
