Potrebbe sembrare banale descrivere un laboratorio per l’analisi del lavaggio broncoalveolare (bronchoalveolar lavage — BAL), eppure spesso semplici aspetti pratici mettono in difficoltà chi deve awiare tale struttura. Nella Tabella 1 sono indicati i principali strumenti necessari in un laboratorio per l’analisi del BAL. Una struttura adeguata dovrebbe comprendere almeno due locali: uno ampio, con gli strumenti necessari, adibito a laboratorio ed un altro più piccolo da utilizzare come magazzino per i materiali di consumo. Il personale di base è abitualmente composto da un medico pneumologo che si occupa della gestione del laboratorio, della lettura dei preparati, dell’interpretazione dei risultati e della stesura del referto e da un biologo o un tecnico che processa il campione. Non si esclude owiamente la possibilità di stabilire collaborazioni con laboratori d’analisi ed anatomie patologiche sia per l’esecuzione di alcune indagini che per l’utilizzo di determinati strumenti [1]. Il laboratorio di immunopatologia polmonare è essenzialmente dedicate allo studio del BAL e dell’espettorato indotto.
