Il cancro dell’esofago rappresenta la decima neoplasia più frequente al mondo [1] e la settima in Giappone, con un’incidenza di 5.7/100000 persone [2]. È una patologia impegnativa, con una connotazione negativa associata ad una prognosi peggiore rispetto alle altre neoplasie gastrointestinali come il cancro dello stomaco o il cancro colorettale, anche dopo resezione radicale [3,4]. Tuttavia la resezione chirurgica rimane il trattamento più efficace per pazienti senza alcuna evidenza di malattia sistemica o invasione di organi vitali.
