La pleurodesi è la fusione dei due foglietti pleurici ottenuta median te mezzi chimici, fisici o meccanici allo scopo di obliterare lo spazio pleurico. Essa rappresenta una procedura per lo più complementare ad un atto chirurgico e trova indicazioni in alcune affezioni più o meno comuni di patologia toracica, quali il pneumotorace, le perdite aeree prolungate dopo interventi chirurgici di resezione polmonare, i versamenti pleurici neoplastici, primitivi e secondari, i versamenti pleurici benigni o infiammatori recidivanti, il chilotorace.
