In piena era antibiotica, la tubercolosi (Tb) è ancora una delle malattie infettive più diffuse nel mondo, tanto che l’Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità parla di un terzo della popolazione mondiale infetta con 9 milioni di nuovi casi di malattia per anno e circa 3 milioni di morti. Sono questi i dati relativi ai primi anni del nuovo secolo, per una patologia antica, già presente vari millenni prima di Cristo.
