La diffusione dei tumori al sistema nervoso centrale (SNC) avviene principalmente tramite disseminazione per via ematogena; le cellule neoplastiche circolanti vengono portate attraverso le arterie del collo (carotidi interne e vertebrali, queste ultime confluenti nell’arteria basilare) fino al circolo precapillare e capillare. Le condizioni emoreologiche spiegano la propensione delle metastasi a svilupparsi a partire da foci in questo settore del circolo.
