Resumen
Los incentivos para la innovación constituyen un elemento central de la teoría de la innovación, y conocer en qué forma en la que actúan dichos incentivos es crucial para la formulación de una política tecnológica fundamentada. Desde el punto de vista de la iniciativa privada, los innovadores financian de forma privada la innovación y luego utilizan los mecanismos de protección de la propiedad intelectual para obtener el retorno apropiado de esas inversiones. Para otros tipos de agentes, como los investigadores académicos o los consorcios públicos-privados, los incentivos pueden estar relacionados también con la reputación personal y el avance en la carrera profesional.
