Abstract

The objective of having a classification system in place is to have a standardized taxonomy of clinical presentations which can improve data collection and aid in the comparison of different studies and populations. Through such consistent gradation and collective learning, evidence-based guidelines can be framed in order to develop therapeutic protocols and prioritize surgical conditions. In this chapter, we will be discussing classification of hernias of the groin, ventral, incisional, and parastomal variety according to the European Hernia Society.
