Abstract
The availability of socio-economic rights in South Asia has been examined in this chapter. The investigation begins with the analysis of the provisions on the enforcement mechanism of socio-economic rights under International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) and under the conventions of International Labour Organization. Then, it proceeds on the identification and analysis of constitutional provisions relating to socio-economic rights in India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh. This chapter further examines the enforcement mechanism postulated in the Constitutions of these countries. As reporting is the principal method of compliance of commitment under ICESCR, this chapter examines the periodical submission made by the countries of South Asia.
