Abstract
Increased demand of energy forced us to think about the non-conventional energy sources. Solar energy can be utilized for cooking by using solar cooker with a parabolic concentrator. Absorber located at the focal point of the parabolic concentrator receives sufficient energy to raise the temperature of food in reasonable time. The efficiency of the process depends on the reflectivity of the material of concentrator. The material used for solar concentrators needs to have high reflectivity, spectral physical properties to ensure long life of the system. The paper presents an experimental study for selection of cost effective reflective material with improved efficiency. Various materials are tested for cost effectiveness and better reflectivity and the material showing optimum results is selected for the experiment. Different designs in respect of size and material of absorber are tested at focal point of the concentrator and one of them showing most efficient result is selected.
