Abstract

This chapter aims at identifying the factors that have influenced the changes in the level of final energy consumption in major sectors of Tunisia. We apply the logarithmic mean Divisia index to a dataset of four economic sectors (manufacturing, agriculture, transport, and tertiary) and the residential sector for the period 1990–2008, and examine the factors contributing to changes in patterns of use in these sectors. We find that energy consumption in commercial sectors is mostly influenced by activity and intensity changes and in residential sector, income and population changes contribute the most to the change in final energy use.
