Abstract

The hospital environment is a unique example of an enclosed environment where two distinct groups of individuals interact. The close interactions between health-care workers and the patients’ that they take care for act as a two-way street where pathogens can transfer rarely from the patient to the health-care workers (HCW) and more commonly from the health-care workers to the patient. The aim of infection prevention in this setting is to minimize and attempt to eliminate this two-way traffic and thus keep the health-care worker safe and healthy from patient-acquired infections and as importantly prevent transfer of pathogenic organism and infections from the health-care worker to the patient.
