Abstract

The current project is aimed at improving the quality of damper flaps and also to increase the productivity by designing a special purpose hydraulic press with notching tool for making the notches in the damper flap plates to replace by individual marking and oxy-acetylene cutting done manually. The present manufacturing has inherent quality and productivity problems, which need to be studied and resolved to meet the growing production targets of Industry. The project was executed based on the methodology that involves seven phases such as, information gathering and analysis, concept for project generation, concept evaluation and selection, and product architecture. For gathering information the industry was visited and studied the manufacturing process, various drawbacks and difficulties faced by workers and notes had been prepared after discussion. By identifying the problem, it was suggested to replace individual marking and oxy-acetylene cutting were replaced by means of hydraulic press. The required suitable tool was selected from the available option based on design calculation. The project was executed based on methodology that involves the following stages configuration design, parametric design, testing and refinement, and detail design. The press structure was analyzed by using ansys.
