Psychology, Development and Social Policy in India

Abstract

This chapter focuses on issues related to definition, identification, diagnosis, intervention, inclusive education, and research on learning disabilities and their relevance for policy making. This chapter highlights the complex issues of concern in Indian context related to the identification of learning disability (LD) itself and lack of organized services addressing the educational, cognitive, psychological, and social needs of individuals with LD. It is emphasized that the gap between the service providers such as school professionals, paediatricians, psychiatrists, special educators on the one hand and researchers in the field of cognitive science of learning and educational neuroscience on the other hand needs to be reduced.
