Abstract

Analysis of plant tissue (foliar analysis) can be used as a method of detecting mine soil nutrient deficiencies, the assumption being that sufficiency or deficiency of plant available nutrients in the soil will be directly reflected in their tissue concentration. The technique is subjected to many factors such as time of year, position of leaf tissue on the plant (especially for trees), type of plant, specific plant part, growth stage, level of available soil nutrients and environmental factors.
