The pulmonary artery catheterization (PAC) provides direct pressure measurements from the right atrium, right ventricle, pulmonary artery, and pulmonary artery occlusion pressure. It is also a mean of measuring cardiac output and mixed venous oxygen saturation. Routine use of this should be avoided, but it has still a role in expert hands in cardiac surgery, difficult to treat heart failure, congenital heart disease, and complex fluid management.
